Change Proposal

Reimplementation of a Bedside Shift Report

IV. Implementation Plan

A. Assess the factors that are likely to affect the implementation of your recommended activities

Your plan should encompass the following with evidence to support your rationale:

a. Technological challenges

b. Institutional structures

c. Strategies for building buy-in among different stakeholders, including nurses

d. Financial trends and anticipation of the availability of human resource and project funding

e. Hospital or governmental policy constraints

f. Regulatory requirements

g. Patient diversity

Assessment

An anxious patient is having rapid and shallow breathing. After a few moments, he complains of a tingling sensation.

What could be the causes of this tingling sensation?

What are the various patterns of respiration and their significance?

Ethnicity and culture influence risk factors for heart disease. Do you agree? Why or why not?

What is the technique of percussion and palpation of the chest wall for tenderness, symmetry, bulges, fremitus, and thoracic expansion? Explain.

Would you anticipate hearing hyper-resonance on a patient with a history of tobacco use? Why or why not?

What are the mechanics of breathing with reference to lung borders and the anatomical structure of the lungs and diaphragm?

Discussion Information Technology

There are vast quantities of consumer data available today. For example, every time you use your grocery store loyalty card, data about what you purchased is collected, analyzed, and saved. These data in the hands of population health professionals can contribute to the creation of healthy lifestyle programs. However, the same data in the hands of health insurance plans could lead to higher insurance costs or denial of insurance.

Should there be regulations on how these consumer data are used? (Include your rationale for your response.)

Annotated Bibliography

Choose a common myth associated with managed care. You may use one of the myths discussed in this week's reading assignment, or come up with one on your own. Write a 2 page analysis on why you think this myth came about and why it still may be prevalent today. Explain to what degree the myth is based on facts, truths, and misunderstandings.

Summarize the evidence from research that counters or supports the premise of your myth. Conduct research in at least two sources, not including your textbook. Cite your sources using APA style guidelines.

This is the week you turn in your outline and annotated bibliography to give direction to your paper (Review the assignment in Module 01.)

Outline:

Provide a strong thesis statement outlines the path that your project will follow. Remember to reflect on an argumentative point of view (through an assumption or myth)

Outline should support thesis, listing topics and sub-topics for your project.

Annotated Bibliography:

Annotated paragraphs for at least 3 sources include summary of the source, an evaluation, and description of source's usefulness.

 Properly formatted using APA guidelines.

 Mechanics follow required standards.

Recap of Project Goal:

Write an argumentative research paper on a managed care-related topic, assumption or myth; thoroughly explaining what it is, why it's important, and how it fundamentally impacts the managed care system today. You will gather evidence on present a well-reasoned argument or debatable issue. The goal of an argumentative paper is to show that your perspective is valid. You are to form reasons, draw conclusions and apply them to your findings. The purpose is not to completely prove your point, but to convince readers, with your evidence, that your argument or position has merit.

Your project is due by the end of Week 05. Along the way, you are responsible to do the research and writing and turn in portions of your project according to the following Time Line. (You will be given specific instructions each week.)

Dsiscussion

Does quality of life improve for clients with autoimmune or neuromuscular disorders who received stem cell replacement?

Discussion

Describe the difference in roles between leadership and management. Explain how the goals of management and leadership overlap and provide one example. As a nurse leader, describe how you can facilitate change by taking advantage of this overlap

Cultural diversity

Book Review #2- “The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down”

Chapters 4-6

According to chapter 4 in the book, what perceptions of American physicians may have affected Hmong refugees’ ability to feel that they could trust the American health care system?

How did Dwight Conquergood make some headway in working to promote public health among Hmong refugees at Ban Vanai camp?

How may some of the negative perceptions of Foua and Nao Kao by staff affected how they cared for Lia and her family?

How did you find yourself feeling about Foua and Nao Kao’s continual “noncompliance” with Lia’s medication regimen?

Describe how Merced’s public health department effectively handled a public health situation regarding a Hmong family raising rats in the home and how could this communication have easily broken down?

Stage-Based Challenges and Strategies for Support in Doctoral Education

A Practical Guide for Students, Faculty Members, and Administrators,” Pifer and Baker (2016) identified three stages of doctoral education, explaining each one and suggesting strategies to overcome challenges that arise in each stage. The excerpted reading below includes the explanations and strategies aimed at doctoral students in the first two stages of doctoral education: knowledge consumption and knowledge creation. Read through these paragraphs from Pifer and Baker (2016), and then compose an essay in response to these questions:

Based on the challenges and strategies discussed by Pifer and Baker (2016), what challenges do you anticipate you will face in your doctoral program?

What strategies will you apply to work through these challenges in your doctoral journey?

Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) Community Experience

For the Community Experience Project, you will be required to find a video on YouTube or any other social media site where you will be able to witness a virtual meeting such as Alcoholic Anonymous (AA); Cocaine Anonymous (CA); Narcotic Anonymous (NA); Emotional Anonymous (EA) or Overeater Anonymous (OA). The report must be in APA format and 800 – 1,000 words in length. This assignment must be typed. Try your best to follow the grading rubric although it is understood that you are not able to physically visit the site to obtain signatures as required. The report must include a personal reflection and a brief summary of what was learned while watching the community experience video. In addition, include discussions of how the nurse could serve a positive role model and discuss the nursing process within the community setting

Evidence-Based Practice Proposal

Write a paper of 750 words for your proposed evidence-based practice project solution. Address the following criteria:

Proposed Solution: (a) Describe the proposed solution (or intervention) for the problem and the way(s) in which it is consistent with current evidence. Heavily reference and provide substantial evidence for your solution or intervention. (b) Consider if the intervention may be unrealistic in your setting, if it may be too costly, or if there is a lack of appropriate training available to deliver the intervention. If the intervention is unrealistic, you may need to go back and make changes to your problem statement before continuing.

Organization Culture: Explain the way(s) in which the proposed solution is consistent with the organization or community culture and resources.

Expected Outcomes: Explain the expected outcomes of the project. The outcomes should flow from the problem statement.

Method to Achieve Outcomes: Develop an outline of how the outcomes will be achieved. List any specific barriers that will need to be assessed and eliminated. Make sure to mention any assumptions or limitations that may need to be addressed.

Outcome Impact: Describe the impact the outcomes will have on one or all of the following indicators: quality care improvement, patient-centered quality care, efficiency of processes, environmental changes, or professional expertise.
