Child development

In teams, you will create a research-based handbook complete with written component and illustrations and graphics.

For this assignment, you will be placed (virtually) in a real-world scenario that occurs in schools. Please read the following description of the authentic performance task and complete the requirements as described in the scenario.

SCENARIO

“Imagine you are an expert in child development. You will design a helpful handbook for new and expecting parents that will be a helpful resource for parents in learning about how their child will develop in a variety of areas. In your handbook, define specific topics in child development, providing in-depth explanations of the characteristics of each (research-based), and develop three key activities that parents can do at home for each of the following topics to include:

 Prenatal Development and Birth

 Physical Development and Health

 Motor, Sensory, and Perceptual Development

 Cognitive Development Approaches

 Language Development

Your handbook should be realistic, research-based, and precise, and should address all 5 required components in a research-based manner using text support and outside research to create a comprehensive informational handbook focused on development in early childhood.”

The handbook should be 2000-2500 words and should include at least four (4) citations. Assessing and Treating Patients With Bipolar Disorder

(https://cdnfiles.laureate.net/2dett4d/Walden/NURS/6521/05/mm/decision_trees/week_04/index.html),"Marcus, an 18-year-old high school senior, presents with symptoms of difficulty sleeping and feeling sad, which result in an initial diagnosis of depression. His mother later reports, however, that Marcus exhibits symptoms of irritability and risk-taking behaviors. (His little brother reported to his mother that they were driving over 90 miles an hour on the highway.) After further evaluation, Marcus’ psychiatric nurse practitioner diagnoses him with bipolar disorder.

Cases like this are not uncommon with bipolar disorder, as initial assessments rarely provide all the information needed. In your role, as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, you must develop strategies for properly assessing and diagnosing these patients because treatments for bipolar disorder are significantly different than treatments for depression or other mood disorders.

This week, as you examine bipolar therapies, you explore the assessment and treatment of patients with bipolar disorder. You also consider ethical and legal implications of these therapies.

Assignment: Assessing and Treating Patients With Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder is a unique disorder that causes shifts in mood and energy, which results in depression and mania for patients. Proper diagnosis of this disorder is often a challenge for two reasons: 1) patients often present as depressive or manic but may have both; and 2) many symptoms of bipolar disorder are similar to other disorders. Misdiagnosis is common, making it essential for you to have a deep understanding of the disorder’s pathophysiology. For this Assignment, as you examine the patient case study in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat patients presenting with bipolar disorder.

To prepare for this Assignment:

· Review this week’s Learning Resources, including the Medication Resources indicated for this week.

· Reflect on the psychopharmacologic treatments you might recommend for the assessment and treatment of patients requiring bipolar therapy.

The Assignment: 5 pages

Examine Case Study: An Asian American Woman. Diagnosis-Bipolar Disorder. You will be asked to make three decisions concerning the medication to prescribe to this patient. Be sure to consider factors that might impact the patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes.

At each decision point, you should evaluate all options before selecting your decision and moving throughout the exercise. Before you make your decision, make sure that you have researched each option and that you evaluate the decision that you will select. Be sure to research each option using the primary literature.

Minority groups are present all over the United States. Name at least three minority groups and explain why each is categorized as such.

Within the United States there have been two views toward assimilation: the “melting pot” tradition and the Anglo-conformity view. In your opinion, which view accurately describes the United States today, and why?

In 2000, women held 45% of jobs classified as executive, administrative, and managerial. But, in 2011, women held only 16.1% of Fortune 500 board seats, filled only 14.1% of corporate officer positions, and were 7.5% of the country’s top earners. Citing gender stratification in the workplace, in your own opinion why do you think women are being held back from obtaining these top positions?

Cultural transmission theorists believe gender identities and behaviors are a gradual process of learning that begins in infancy. It suggests that teachers and other adults shape a child’s behavior by reinforcing responses that are deemed appropriate to the child’s gender role and discouraging inappropriate ones. What is your personal opinion on this theory? Do you believe that the cultural transmission theory will determine who/what a person will be in adulthood?

Diabetes and Drug Treatments

Each year, 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes (American Diabetes Association, 2019). If left untreated, diabetic patients are at risk for several alterations, including heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, neuropathy, and blindness. There are various methods for treating diabetes, many of which include some form of drug therapy. The type of diabetes as well as the patient’s behavior factors will impact treatment recommendations.

For this Discussion, you compare types of diabetes, including drug treatments for type 1, type 2, gestational, and juvenile diabetes.
