Complexity Science

From your nursing practice, use the principles of complexity science to describe the simple ""unwritten"" rules of interaction on your unit that you've seen shape the behavior of you and your colleagues. How did you learn them?

Must be at least 2 paragraphs and 2 cited sources

Literature Research Paper

For this assignment, you will locate two research studies related to the topic and PICOT questions that you developed in Week 2. The articles must be current (within the last five years), and one article must be quantitative, and one article must be qualitative. (The topic I used in week 2 was Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.)

Article choice is very important, therefore:

Articles used for this assignment cannot be used for the other assignments. The selected articles should be original research studies. Review articles, concept analysis, meta-analysis, meta-synthesis, integrative review, and systemic review articles should not be used.

Mixed-methods studies should not be used.

There are two parts to this assignment.

Part 1: Complete a Rapid Critical Appraisal Checklist

Select one each: qualitative and quantitative research articles.

Create a Rapid Critical Appraisal Checklist for the two research articles (one column per article).

Complete with brief, concise, summarized information.

Part II: Write a summary (one- to two- pages)

Identify differences between quantitative and qualitative designs and research methods.

Use current APA Style for your summary paper and to cite your sources.

 Submit the checklist and summary.

PICOT Question Paper

Review your problem or issue and the study materials to formulate a PICOT question for your capstone project change proposal. A PICOT question starts with a designated patient population in a particular clinical area and identifies clinical problems or issues that arise from clinical care. The intervention used to address the problem must be a nursing practice intervention. Include a comparison of the nursing intervention to a patient population not currently receiving the nursing intervention, and specify the timeframe needed to implement the change process. Formulate a PICOT question using the PICOT format (provided in the assigned readings) that addresses the clinical nursing problem.

The PICOT question will provide a framework for your capstone project change proposal.

In a paper of 500 words, clearly identify the clinical problem and how it can result in a positive patient outcome.

Describe the problem in the PICOT question as it relates to the following:

 Evidence-based solution

 Nursing intervention

 Patient care

 Health care agency

 Nursing practice

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Whether used with individuals or families, the goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is to modify client behavior. Although CBT for families is similar to CBT for individuals, there are significant differences in their applications. As you develop treatment plans, it is important that you recognize these differences and how they may impact your therapeutic approach with families. For this Discussion, as you compare the use of CBT for families and individuals, consider challenges of applying this therapeutic approach to your own client families.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

Compare the use of cognitive behavioral therapy for families to cognitive behavioral therapy for individuals

Analyze challenges of using cognitive behavioral therapy for families

Recommend effective cognitive behavioral therapy strategies for families

To prepare:

Review the media, Johnson Family Session 3, in this week’s Learning Resources and consider the insights provided on CBT in family therapy.

Reflect on your practicum experiences with CBT in family and individual settings.

Post an explanation of how the use of CBT in families compares to CBT in individual settings. Provide specific examples from your own practicum experiences. Then, explain challenges counselors might encounter when using CBT in the family setting. Support your position with specific examples from this week’s media.

Fall prevention strategies in hospitals

PICOT Question

Among patients admitted in the hospital (P), how effective is providing a safe hospital environment (I) as compared to conducting standardized assessments (C) in preventing falls (O) within the period of stay in the hospital (T)?

Literature Review

While the implementation plan prepares students to apply their research to the problem or issue they have identified for their capstone project change proposal, the literature review enables students to map out and move into the active planning and development stages of the project.

A literature review analyzes how current research supports the PICOT, as well as identifies what is known and what is not known in the evidence. Students will use the information from the earlier PICOT Question Paper and Literature Evaluation Table assignments to develop a 750-1,000 word review that includes the following sections:

 Title page

 Introduction section

 A comparison of research questions

 A comparison of sample populations

A comparison of the limitations of the study

A conclusion section, incorporating recommendations for further research

Medicare or Medicaid

PEER 1

Medicare and Medicaid are the greatest insurance programs run by the government. However, they are operated and funded by different parts of the government and primarily serve different groups. Medicare is run by the federal government and mainly provide health coverage to individual aged 65 years and above and those with disability. Medicaid entails collaboration between the state and federal government and provides health coverage to low-income. However, there are those how meet dual eligible criteria. Therefore, as a state and federal-run program Medicaid has greater effects on state governments. State governments co-fund the program and are expected to match federal funding.

From modest beginnings in 1965, Medicaid has grown significantly from $5.3 billion four decades ago, to $449 billion in 2013. In Florida, Medicaid expenditures have grown by 33% between 2012 and 2016. In 2016, the combined state and federal spending on Medicaid increased by 22%. Over these years, the federal government has provided between 55% and 60% of Medicaid funding. During the same time, Medicaid has growth to more than 75% of the Medicare expenditure and its share of national health expenditure has almost doubled. Following the passage of the Affordable Care Act, 2010, states were requested to expand their Medicaid program (Sutter, 2016). According to Ward (2020), the expansion of the Medicaid program has met significant resistant because of its presumed impact on state budgets. Florida is one of the states that have failed to expand its Medicaid plan under the Affordable Care Act. Some stakeholders argue that expanding the illegibility criteria is likely to have significant fiscal implications. Florida is among the states with the highest personal healthcare spending, ranking 5th nationwide. According to Buettgens (2018), the growing Medicaid expenditure are not necessarily driven by increased coverage, but also by changing medical needs, changes in demographics, and other factors affecting consumption of health care services. The debate on the cost implications of expanding Medicaid are likely to persist, but is evident that more Americans have health insurance.

PEER2

More often individuals tend not to understand the difference between Medicare in addition to Medicaid. Regardless of them providing assistance to the senior citizens as well as the disabled ones in catering for most of the expenses that are health-related. Medicare is basically a type of health insurance for the people who are disabled, senior or anyone who is known to be suffering from a failure of the kidney which is considered to be permanent. Additionally, it is financed via the contributions of tax security which is contrary to the Medicaid (Hu and Mortensen, 2018).

Florida Medicaid is basically a program that depends on the necessities with benefits which is determined by an individual’s financial in addition to their medical position. It basically provides medical insurance to individuals who are considered to have low incomes in addition to the ones who are disabled. It is a nationwide program which is funded jointly by the federal government in addition to the states. The eligibility of Medicaid, administration in addition to benefits tends to be under the states’ management which are within the guidelines of the federal.

Medicaid basically is known for having an impact which is great within the Florida state in comparison to the Medicare program. It does not provide healthcare which is direct, contrary to that, it pays the nursing homes, hospitals, health plans, physicians in addition to other various caregivers particularly for the services that are covered as well as the ones that have been delivered to the eligible patients. In Florida State it is compulsory for an individual to have a Medicaid so that they can benefit from the healthcare (Munnich and Richards, 2020).

QUESTION

Vision of Nursing

What is your vision for the future of nursing? How does your vision fit with the recommendations in the IOM report? What two action steps do you plan to take to promote this vision?

Submission Instructions:

Your initial post should be at least 500 words, formatted and cited in current APA style with support from at least 2 academic sources.

Evidence Base in Design

When politics and medical science intersect, there can be much debate. Sometimes anecdotes or hearsay are misused as evidence to support a particular point. Despite these and other challenges, however, evidence-based approaches are increasingly used to inform health policy decision-making regarding causes of disease, intervention strategies, and issues impacting society. One example is the introduction of childhood vaccinations and the use of evidence-based arguments surrounding their safety.

In this Discussion, you will identify a recently proposed health policy and share your analysis of the evidence in support of this policy.

To Prepare:

Review the Congress website provided in the Resources and identify one recent (within the past 5 years) proposed health policy.

Review the health policy you identified and reflect on the background and development of this health policy.

By Day 3 of Week 7

Post a description of the health policy you selected and a brief background for the problem or issue being addressed. Explain whether you believe there is an evidence base to support the proposed policy and explain why. Be specific and provide examples.
